Do you want a flexible job where you are moving
around and not sitting all day? Do think you would enjoy driving and food
delivery? Do you consider yourself friendly and outgoing? Then you
just may be a good fit to drive for a new food/grocery/product delivery
service, Postmates.
What Exactly is Postmates?
You've no doubt heard the name mentioned on the news. Maybe you even
have the app on your cell phone and have ordered food from Postmates yourself.
Postmates is a company that hires independent contractors to do
deliveries.
However, unlike other services which only deliver food orders, Postmates
also delivers groceries as well as over 20,000 other items. So with this
driving position, you would be fulfilling the roles for both a personal shopper
and food delivery driver.
You will probably find that in most areas—depending upon where you
live—food delivery is in the highest demand.
Also, when it comes to delivery you aren't limited to a car. You may use
a bicycle, motorcycle, scooter or even walking if within a reasonable distance.
The main thing is to get there on time with the food in good shape!
What is the Procedure for Becoming a Delivery Driver
For Postmates?
You will be expected to pass a background check once you sign up at
Postmates. If you pass the background check, then you go on to an orientation in
your area.
Note that Postmates does not yet offer their service in every city, but
it does appear to be available in most major cities across the US. You can go
here to see where it's available.
If it's not yet available in your area, rest assured they are growing
quickly so it may be soon! We do have a big list of other side
gigs you could do offline that you might consider instead in
the meantime.
How Much Money Can You Expect to Make at Postmates?
As you might imagine, a lot of it will depend upon you and your speed
and performance.
You will need a good, reliable cell phone where you will accept or
reject orders as they come in. Obviously, the faster you accept the orders and
deliver them, the more money you can make.
Postmates doesn't share potential earnings on their website. However,
Glassdoor indicates most Postmates drivers are earning somewhere around $12
hourly. Note: there is a lot of variance in the rate apparently, and some
people only make about $5 an hour, while others earn more than $20.
Some customers do tip, and you are welcome to accept them. As a delivery
driver, you will be paid 80% of the customer's total order before promotions or
special offers are deducted out.
Like most driving jobs, food delivery prices do go up during peak times.
So, if you can work during the peak meal times, then there will be even more
money to be made.
This is one of those jobs that pay weekly! Payday
is via PayPal or direct deposit, or you can choose to cash out every day if you
like.
